The Grascals and Friends

Country Classics with a Bluegrass Twist
www.grascals.com

Review By Roger Randolph

This CD WILL move you in more ways than one!!   I know you've heard that line before... but THIS ONE WILL!

The latest project by The Grascals will get your toes tapping and will pull at your heart like you will not believe... 13 great tracks that will leave you wanting more.

When I got the CD my first thought when I saw the cover was Great... another country song CD...But then I started listening and I had to grab the liner notes.. Who Was That Singing?? (I didn't notice the "And Friends" on the cover)

Starting off on the first cut "Tiger By The Tail" a song made famous by the late Buck Owens you'll hear Brad Paisley along with The Grascals. VERY well mixed and performed.

Coming up on the second track, "Folsom Prison Blues" Dierks Bentley adds his voice to the famous Johnny Cash tune.

Dolly Parton, whoís voice you can't miss anywhere joins in on "Pain Of Loving You" and also on a NEW song written this year by Jamie Johnson, his wife Suzanne and friend Jenee Fleenor after Jamie and The Grascals visited St Judes Childrens Hospital in Feb 2010.
"I Am Strong" is THE song on this CD that will MOVE YOU! Also.. be watching for a music video of this song!

The Other tracks are...
"Louisianna Saturday Night" performed by only The Grascals.. and VERY well I may add!

"The Year That Clayton Delaney Died" with non other than The Old Storyteller himself... Tom T. Hall!!

"White Lightning" with Darryl Worley... a fantastic Country/Bluegrass rockin tune that will get you stompin'

"The devil Went Down To Georgia" has Charlie Daniels ripping it up on fiddle and vocals.

"Leavin' Louisiana In The Broad Daylight" rings in with the distinctive harmonies of The Oak Ridge Boys.

"Mr Bojangles" has Joe Nichols joining The Grascals and I think this is my new favorite version of this song!

"Born To Boogie and All My Rowdy Friends" is a medley that I'm sure would make any Hank Jr fan happy.

"Cracker Barrel Swing" is the only instrumental on the project. A VERY well arranged toe tapper!

Now.. there is a bonus track but I'll let you figure that one out for yourself...
Just know that Dolly Parton, The Oak Ridge Boys, Darryl Worley, Charlie Daniels, Terri Clark, Randy Owen, Steven Seagal, Tom T. Hall, Joe Nichols, and Ansley McLaurin all have a part in it!

Itís not enough that The Grascals put together a GREAT album.. a portion of the proceeds of this project will also go to St Judes Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis Tn so pick up several and give to friends.. they'll love you for it! Iíll be doing the same.

The Grascals And Friends is a definite MUST HAVE by both country and Bluegrass fans alike.

It goes on sale Monday Jan 10th 2011 so to to pick up your copy you'll need to go to The Cracker Barrel Country Store or www.crackerbarrel.com .  Tell'em The Bluegrass Mix sent ya! (no you won't get a discount) :)

If I had to say anything bad about this project, it would have to be the fact that I had to get my bifocals to read the liner notes! (I Donít Like Getting Old)
