ABOUT |
Way back in the times when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, Set was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. At the ripe age of two, his folks decided to move to California, and being somewhat less than self-sufficient, he thought it was best to go with them, so he tagged along. They landed in L.A. where he grew up (well, he got older anyway, we're not so sure about the having 'grown up' part). He went to college at the University of California up in Berkeley, and then moved back to the L.A. area. For years he knocked about at a bunch of very different jobs, ranging from bartender to being the director of a psychiatric half-way house, never working more than a couple of years at any one place. He finally got into the computer software area, way before the days of the internet, developed a little product, sold it for a few years, then sold his small company. Around that time, about twenty years ago now, he moved to Boulder, Colorado, which is about 30 miles northwest of Denver, nestled right up to the Rockies. He was a bona fide city boy, having lived in big cities pretty much all his life. He initially found Boulder to be a nice change - it's a relatively small town of about 100,000. But soon even that seemed too big, and within a couple of years moved out into a rural area north of Boulder, where he currently lives. It's all dirt roads out there, where he's got a little land, a couple of horses etc. He has been a musician since he was 18, a singer/songwriter mostly in the folk, roots-rock, blues area. He had not listened much to bluegrass music until about 15 years ago when a former girlfriend took him to the Telluride Bluegrass festival, and he was hooked. Now it is just about his favorite music to listen to these days, especially when working on the seemingly infinite number of projects that are constantly going on around his place. About five years ago, he legally changed his name to Set, which is both his first and last name. Set is an acronym of his former legal name. "I call my Bluegrass Mix show 'Sizzlegrass', and I'll be focusing on a couple of hours of red-hot up tempo tunes, with a mix of traditional/contemporary, male/female, and vocal/instrumental." "I am truly inspired by, and very grateful for the wonderful work done by Roger and Julie in creating the Bluegrass Mix, and am honored to have the opportunity to be a part of this great resource for bluegrass music." |
