Born and raised in California. I have also been a resident of New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. My passion has become bluegrass music and also in playing the mandolin. At an early age I had an attraction and a very great appreciation of bluegrass music and traditional mountain music, and that love has deepened through the years. It seems very much like there is a renaissance in bluegrass music. I have lived a very rural
lifestyle for 20 years from 1975-1995 in which I came to discover and
explore acoustic music and the high lonesome sound of Bluegrass. In
1975, I moved to the alpine town of Idyllwild in the San Jacinto
Mountains of southern California. I bought my first mandolin and I began
the journey of learning to play and create music. I entered the local
"Idyllwild Bluegrass Festival" and took Second place in the
Mandolin competition. In 1980, I moved to the coastal mountains of
Mendocino County to fulfill a dream of homesteading on a 40 acre parcel.
While living the rural lifestyle music played in big role in our lives.
In the evenings when all the work was finished we gathered to play
music....I took a hiatus from playing mandolin from 1989-2005. I was
busy in medical school in New Mexico studying Traditional Chinese
Medicine. I am a Clinical Herbalist and also I am licensed in Oriental
Bodywork. I never ceased listening to Bluegrass and never lost my deep
appreciation of the music. In 2005, I finally decided that it was time
that I finally take up making music on the mandolin. For the last 10 years I have worked in the Healthcare field, first, in the Emergency Room as an ER Tech/Medical Assistant and presently I work in the Telemetry Unit in a large hospital as a Unit Assistant. For over six months I have been dealing with a work-related disability. Of course this has allowed me more time to enjoy and explore bluegrass music and in deepening my skills on the mandolin. As a DJ on The Bluegrass
Mix I have the opportunity to share my love and passion for bluegrass
music. I have a respect for the Father's of Bluegrass as well as an
appreciation for newer interpretations of bluegrass music. |
